President Joko Widodo received a visit from Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr at the Bogor

Presidential Palace, West Java, Monday (5/9/2022). According to the Presidential Secretariat’s YouTube broadcast, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr and his delegation arrived at the Bogor Presidential Palace at around 09.58 WIB. The car carrying President Marcos Jr. was greeted by cavalry, troops dressed in regional clothes and a marching band as they entered the gates of the Bogor Palace. The car then this group headed for the Palace yard. Arriving at the Palace courtyard, President Marcos Jr. who was accompanied by the First Lady of the Philippines Marie Louise Araneta Marcos got out of the car and was immediately greeted by President Joko Widodo and Ibu Iriana Joko Widodo. President Marcos Jr. was seen wearing a long-sleeved white bone shirt while his wife was wearing a long dress of the same color. Meanwhile, President Jokowi wore a brown long-sleeved batik and Ibu Iriana wore a kebaya and brown batik cloth. After shaking hands and having a brief conversation, the two state leaders and their respective wives witnessed the welcoming ceremony in the courtyard of the Bogor Presidential Palace. The ceremony was carried out by chanting the national anthems of the two countries, 21 cannon fire and inspection of troops. Then, the two heads of state introduced each other to their respective delegations. From Indonesia, the delegations accompanying President Jokowi were Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi, Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Mahfud MD, State Secretary Pratikno, Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Uno and Indonesian Ambassador to the Philippines Agus Widjojo. President Jokowi then invited President Marcos Jr. and his wife to enter the Bogor Palace to take a group photo and sign the guest book. After that, the two leaders and their respective first ladies held a veranda talk. Jokowi and President Marcos Jr. seemed to have a friendly conversation. Every now and then they both seem to smile and laugh. Then, President Jokowi and Ibu Iriana invited President Marcos Jr and First Lady Marie Louise to the backyard of the Bogor Presidential Palace to plant trees. The tree planted this time is the Iron Wood Tree from East Kalimantan. As previously reported, Philippine Presidential Office Press Secretary Trixie Cruz-Angeles on Friday (19/8/2022) said President Marcos Jr. will visit two Southeast Asian countries in the first week of September. Marcos, who took office on June 30, will visit Indonesia on September 4-6 and Singapore on September 6-7. The overseas visit in September will be Marcos Jr.’s first as president of the Philippines. Angeles did not say why the Marcos Jr. government chose Indonesia and Singapore as the President’s first state visit. Marcos Jr’s predecessor, former president Rodrigo Duterte, also made his first state visit to Indonesia in early September 2016.
